im 90% sure i lost a friendship over recommending they play 7th dragon iii 10 years ago.
Etrian odyssey (for a lot of reasons), langrisser (sexless all things considered but those character designs), wizardry 6/the dark spire (torture labyrinth), legend of lemnear/chirality

I'd also check out Crystal Warriors and Royal Stone for the Game Gear, as well as any of the Langrisser games.

I'm more influenced by Shining Force than Fire Emblem, but if it's versatile enough I'm sure it could scratch my itch for designing a grid-based tactics game.

Also i feel like whenever i see langrisser updates its exclusively female characters, whether original or now from the WSC/dreamcast era which i dont have a problem with but im not a big fan of the original characters....

Whereas when you look at Langrisser Mobile, egregriously leaving out many male characters despite they're literal playable characters in their own game, while adding only the female characters in quick pace.

I have never played any Mobile SRPG beyond Langrisser Mobile which I left years ago due to unsatisfied with it's directions. But based on first impression on WOTV and Fire Emblem Heroes, both seem to have strong presentations and actually respect the source materials.

It has a PC client, which is how I am playing. If you've never heard of Langrisser before, it's kind of like Fire Emblem but a bit more complicated! So if Tactical/Strategy RPGs are your thing, I highly recommend you check it out.

Started playing Langrisser Mobile again after several years; surprised but happy it's still going. It's currently having a 7 year anniversary event, so that's really cool.
Did a "welcome back" pull and got this absolute unit, apparently one of the best PVE units. Built her up a bit so far.

Lunar Silver Star Story Complete came out west in 1999 but is easily available now uhhh Langrisser 1 and 2 are even older but 2 was translated in like 2021. Goemon 1 or 2 on N64 uhhh Snoopy Silly Sports has Snoopy but is pretty rough...tax in escape from Mars is surprisingly funny
