Doremus looked depressed, looked old, when he lifted himself, as from an invalid's chair, out of the Chrysler, in his hideous garage of cement and galvanized iron. (But it was a proud two-car garage; besides the four-year- old Chrysler, they had a new Ford convertible coupe,

Meanwhile, almost daily hurtling by aeroplane between Washington and Buzz's home, Lee Sarason supervised dozens of telephone girls and scores of girl stenographers, who answered thousands of daily telephone calls and letters and telegrams and cables–

One of my favourite albums, even in the original truncated UK version; though I still find Frank’s avant garde stuff ‘difficult’. #ItCantHappenHere

I have no desire to be President. I would much rather do my humble best as a supporter of Bishop Prang, Ted Bilbo, Gene Talmadge or any other broad-gauged but peppy Liberal. My only longing is to Serve.

Zero Hour, Berzelius Windrip.

President Windrip's first extended proclamation to the country was a pretty piece of literature and of tenderness. He explained that powerful and secret enemies of American principles--one rather gathered that they were a combination of Wall Street and Soviet Russia

The comparison is apt. The dehumanizing and inhumanity in that dreadful video, which has just about broken my spirit, brought to my mind Nazi concentration camps. And people being disappeared too. How can this be allowed to continue? Can we get it turned around? #ItCantHappenHere you say. IT DID.

Currently Listening to It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis on Libby—chilling how a 1935 novel about fascism in America still feels eerily relevant today. #SinclairLewis #ItCantHappenHere #LibbyApp #Audiobook #DystopianFiction #HistoryRepeats

“It can’t happen here,” they say—smirking like history’s a myth. But it did: Hitler’s Germany, Pinochet’s Chile, Rwanda’s genocide, Yugoslavia’s collapse. And here—1942, over 120,000 Japanese Americans locked in camps. The louder we deny it, the closer it is. #ItCantHappenHere

Usually I'm pretty mild, in fact many of my friends are kind enough to call it "Folksy," when I'm writing or speechifying. My ambition is to "live by the side of the road and be a friend to man."

I have been blurping out #itcanthappenhere for the last couple weeks, have no idea if anyone is reading along.
If you are, could you drop a note here, and let me know?
I'd appreciate knowing someone is getting something out of it.
Thanks.

As one of the most poisonous counter revolutionists in the country, Ex- Senator Walt Trowbridge, Windrip's rival in the election of 1936, was watched night and day by a rotation of twelve M.M. guards.

@chrislhayes.bsky.social , I started sending out #itcanthappenhere yesterday, if anyone wants to read along. Just follow that hashtag. EVERYONE needs to read that book. If you read it decades ago in school, it's time to refresh memory and read it again.
