Panel 3 Ella wails in horror, partly at what’s happened to her, but mostly at the fate of her beloved console. Josh tries frantically – and clumsily – to calm her down. ELLA: Waaaaugh! ELLA: Dad’s GameBox! What did you do to it? JOSH: It was broken in the accident. I needed a system that could interface with your cerebrum… JOSH: There wasn’t time to use anything else. Panel 4 Ella cautiously reaches up to the base of her skull. We can see a small cartridge slot, the same as from the console, at the point where her skull and neck meet, just below the hairline. ELLA: What…what is this? Panel 5 Josh is now pacing the room, arms flapping and waving, as he tries to explain and justify what he’s done. JOSH: I needed a direct access point. JOSH: Those game cartridges…I mean, they’re perfect… JOSH: They deliver the protein codes straight into the neural pathway… Panel 6 Close up on Ella, wide-eyed. ELLA: You put Dad’s old console… ELLA: Into my brain? The next page in Ella's story. Panel 1 Josh has stopped his pacing, and is looking at Ella quizzically. JOSH: Well…technically, yes. JOSH: It’s a bit more complicated than that… Panel 2 Ella leans over, tugging on her drip feed tight and nearly pulling the stand over. She’s going through the game cartridges. Her expression is inquisitive, excited even. ELLA: So that means… Panel 3 Close up. Inset. Ella’s fingers pushing the Kung Fu Legend cartridge into the slot in her head. We need to see the title on the cartridge. ELLA: I can… Panel 4 Medium close up on Josh. He’s holding up his hands in a frantic “calm down” gesture. JOSH: No, no, it doesn’t work like… Panel 5 Large dynamic splash panel. Ella is now stood on her bed, in her pyjamas. The drip feed is sent flying by her sudden movement. Her left leg has just destroyed the overhead light in a perfect high side kick. Her posture and stance are perfect. She looks awesome. Josh looks on in utter disbelief. ELLA: KEEEEEYAH! JOSH:…that. Panel 6 Close up on Ella, gazing down at her clenched fists in amazement, a massive grin on her face. CAPTION: Oh yeah. CAPTION: This… CAPTION: Is… CAPTION: AWESOME! The next page in Ella's story. Panel 1 A large half-page-ish panel shows a side-on two-storey dollhouse-style cutaway of Josh and Ella’s modest home, with five rooms (Josh and Ella’s bedrooms, bathroom, living room, kitchen). Each room is essentially a sub-panel in its own right. In each one, Ella is enthusiastically performing an exaggerated but broadly accurate kung fu move. ELLA: HAI! ELLA: WOO-SAH! ELLA: HOO-HAH! Transcript: nevermind, i managed to make it playable. but only as an ugly little demo, not a presentable product. this thing is kinda dinky but not even that much (crying emoji). even though the code, etc, technical stuff is so unelegently written and first draft-y. but like. it's a perfectly good base. if only the art was better, and i had spent more time polishing the UI and such, and had actually made the surrounding cutscenes... but i guess it means you'll get much cooler stuff in 2025 with my current level of polish and intention (saluting emoji, twice). Miisha, based vaguely on my friend Misha, [but, more on his comic character, which also goes by "Misha"] I changed it to Miisha like the Mii's from the Wii. Komrad, because Misha spells Comrade as Komrade, and I cut the E off to keep it like a traditional Troll name "Better than Aquilo Clemai" due to the fact that Aquilo's blood color, WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TEAL AND JADE, LIKE WHAT THE FUUUCK??? Anyways, this is also around the time where I started drawing their tails, yes, each character has tails, and they're based on their blood colors and their signs, Leo's being a cat tail Knight of Void, this was Aquilo's classpect so I didn't feel like changing literally every character's classpects just to make this one more reasonable [reason why Myerrz is the Prince of Rage, but you won't see that for a while...]. So I just made it work, he manipulates the void for his own gain, and masks by pretending to be his favorite character, Misha from Pickle Heist [he's more of a fanboy, so... yeah] He's morally grey, and I tried making it like a little cat :3 He has an alternate outfit but I didn't feel like drawing it so I could show off his smug ass facial expression. Weriel, kimesis to Azazel [I do hate her] Theif of Hope, one who steals hope from others for her own personal gain. She's morally dark, like would call you a slur or 5. I wanted to make her hatable but maybe someone would call her mis-understood, and fuck-it, maybe I'll make that true, like "She lived with a lusus that taught her it was okay and she was never killed or punished for it" or maybe not She hates Teals and things she should be placed higher than them and thinks that they should be cloistered, despite NOT BEING CLOISTERED. She's like a Christian white woman who believes she feels the oppression of non-Christian people, and then immediately tells them to "find god" and "I'll be praying for you" except she's not christian, and she's 100% white when she becomes a rainbow drinker also ignore how her teeth isn't colored in, I'm too lazy to open the "base color" file and change that... Azazel, my trollsona, the entire design choice is "Duality" like how Sollux was, but not Sollux cause they're a teal. They're lighter and darker on the morality side, his sign is a geometrical yin-yang sign, he would be a mind user too but Karrat has that role filled out [idk what else to say] They're half blind, they love the number 3, got shot by Weriel, once to blind them, 3 more times to kill them. and idk, pretty cool character, huh? I wanted to give Morana a look of Excitement for idk, killing a dude or something, but then show the regret they have for doing that type of stuff. Could never be Vriska due to the large amounts of guilt they have for what they've done. their background has some cool shit included and a spider-web-esque design with the cogs

It's not super detailed, but this is the first building I've made start to finish from a Blender file to printing without a tutorial or base to work off of (fixing manifold issues is a pain).

It's not much, but I couldn't be happier right now

Since I've been making some EarthBound-inspired sprites, thought I'd share how they're made in the ALT Text. May make a habit to make reactions out of them from time to time.

I checked to see what date the sprite from the top left, which was sometime during 2012. The file was updated a few times because it had some sprites of the devs for Mother 4, now Oddity, which is what the original was trying to replicate. I wanted to redo what I was going for all of those years ago. Some colors stayed, but most were changed because I'm a lot better at handling colors now. Also, I'm just a lot better at shaping people with different body types. There's not much exaggeration of me here. I mostly struggled creating the baggy pants and figuring out where the hands go with the hoodie. I did have an idea with the pants from the get go, and to figure out how to make the hoodie work, I sprited myself with the undershirt first. There was also a minor hold up with the hair not shown here. The bowing was easy. I didn't have to show the body with what I was doing, but I did want a general idea what it'd look like for posing purposes. Process for the crouching sprite. For a frame of reference, even if I was tasked to make a sprite and this was the only pose that was supposed to be seen of them, I'd still make a forward-facing base. The face was as easy as moving a few pixels off to the side and having general knowledge how big thing should approximately be is important. Not sure how others do it, but that's how I do things. Another important thing is tension lines - lines that are close/converge with each other in an unpleasant way. This was mostly an issue with shaping the arms with the legs. You usually want to avoid this sort of thing because it can be distracting once noticed. Giving everything enough space to form a coherent shape is the ideal, but not the rule. Also, making the pants look like they were going over the back of the shoe caught me for a loop. I changed gears when I realized I should probably change the pose to make shaping the pants easier, which it did. Just a bunch-o-mes throughout the years. I hope nobody sees this as self-indulgent. I think it's natural to use something to see where you're at as an artist and this is just one of the many ways I know how. For a while, I drew spriteart of myself for self-representing icons for deviantart and the like. Some people have a character that represents them and I do, but it's just me and that probably has something to do with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid comics I used to draw way back when. The whole hair lick I definitely don't have is a reference to that. Cartoon me will forever be person with a lot more freedoms than I'll ever have. In that sense, it's an extension of the crazy things I wish were possible. I'm wearing an ice cream cone suit backwards with a cherry hat on the bottom.

Still kinda ill today. Thought I'd show off some of the detail that goes into the way I approach things. A lot of it's visual storytelling; I want the model to show who the character represented is, not just put an acceptable gaming piece on a table. #Nerdlings #WarhammerCommunity #Orks #Warhammer
This is a photo from the back of the Ork Killa Kan box set, showing the shape of the drill/augur piece painted up as it comes off the sprue (unmodified). The drill is pointing to the left and the mounting arm is painted in brass metallics & red details over a black base, indicating that this Kan is from a Goff warband. Note in particular how bulbous the "core" of the augur is, how little detail there is at the tip and how the ridges of the augur's thread are honestly a bit indistinct and kinda anaemic. This is a modified version of the augur from the previous photo, painted up on a red and yellow arm (indicating Evil Sunz) but mounted to a blue Kan body (indicating Deathskulls, which kinda makes sense actually because the Deathskulls are a bunch of thieving bastards). Again, the drill points from right to left but note that this time there is more detail around the tip, which is also much sharper, and the drill's thread is much more pronounced andsharp all along its length; this looks like an augur with some real *bite,* like it's gonns punch a hole in your armour and haul you in along its vicious, coiled ridges. It's also the kind of detail that's *really* easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for, because it just sorta looks like the augur was always meant to look this way, you know? It just looks more *right* than the stock version. It also represents several hours' worth of work with a modelling scalpel and miniature rat-tail file. This is exactly the kind of small detail I wind up putting huge amounts of work into and then worrying that nobody will notice. Also, on a much more obvious note, I've included a power line from the Kan's central electrical circuit to the augur's motor instead of having it run on an internal combustion engine because ICEs have really poor low-speed torque and when you're trying to force an augur into an armour plate you need all the torque you can get! This is a two-part image composited from the back of the Ork Killa Kan unit box showing (left) the big Burna (flamethrower) from a Killa Kan and (right) one of the Killa Kan bodies, painted up but without physical modification. Note that the detail on the front of the Burna is all just painted metallic, and while there is some corrosion it is remarkably un-scratched. Note on the body of the Kan that the surface of the Kan is- aside from the limited areas of battle-damage- remarkably smooth in surface and with a lot of very clean-looking cut and welded edges. There isn't much spatter on the welds, and while there are a couple of areas in the cast that try to emulate a rough plasma cut they're kinda half-hearted usually, as well as being few and far between. This is a composite pair of close-ups showing more or less the same bits from my modified, fully-assembled Killa Kans; Burna to the left, Kan to the right. On the burna, note most specifically that the detail on the front of the fuel tank resembles a type of level indicator commonly used on motorbike fuel tanks, made from a clear pipe that runs outside the tank; as such, I've painted it as if it was exactly that kind of gauge, with some dirty yellow flamer fuel sloshing around in it. Note also the extra weathering & damage effects on the weapon. It might not have the same subtle corrosion effect, but it looks a lot more battered and used. On the body, note first that the extra Toofy plate on the front of the Kan has a rough surface; this is common with the kind of face-hardened cast materials used to create heavy vehicle armour in low-tech workshops, if you look at T-34s built at the peak of the rush in WW2 you often see this kind of dimpled surface. It also lends itself much better to the appearance of having been shot at (a lot) with weapons that did not penetrate the armour, and crudely repainted over the top- as well as providing a useful key for corrosion effects. Note as well that the cut edged are rough and heavily-lined; this is typical of hardened steel that has been cut with powerful but slightly crude plasma cutting equipment (Again, reference ww2 Soviet armoured vehicles) and it's an effect I use a lot on Ork vehicles. The welded edges are all kind of "bobbled" as well, which is typical of welds on thick plates done with low-quality equipment or unskilled labour; as the welder heats up unevenly or the welder dawdles then rushes you get beads and spatter all over the place. Finally, you can see overruns in the cuts between "teef," another indicator that this was slapped together in a rush or by a mechanic less concerned with fit & finish than with the end result looking "proppa brootal." Again, these things take way more time than you think they will.
