#HornShark
Hmm...I think that *might* be a crested hornshark egg. The bottom looks like it may have had the tendrils that attach the egg to vegetation (photo below).

However, the to eggs are very similar. So, I can't say for certain which one it is.

The Port Jackson Hornshark and the rare elephant chimaera--not even a shark--are harmless unless you actively harass them. Like slamming your fist on their spines. Or injecting it directly into your fucking veins.

Another sketch!! I'll be doing more to kind of balance my posts.

Mexican Hornshark (Heterodontus mexicanus). Used to see them ALL the time diving in California and Mexico. Cute little guys.

There is *another* nes species of shark that was just described from CISRO's 2022 expedition:

"This is the third new shark species described using specimens collected on the same 2022 voyage, joining the Painted Hornshark and Ridged-egg Catshark..."

anyway here are my favourite shark egg shapes for no particular reason :> they are either attached to seaweed/kelp or shoved between rocks for protection, its easy to find empty pouches during baby season washed up on beaches near shark territories!

Yep... I dove a lot with their cousin (Mexican Hornshark). Biologist explained that the "poison" is just bacteria on the exterior of the spine. It's really sharp on the youngsters and dulls with age. 🦈🤙

This #hornshark was rescued from death due to entanglement in #ghostgear.

Sharks are extremely important for the marine ecosystem - they control the balance of the marine food web, preventing overpopulation of certain species and maintaining the health of the ecosystem. 🌊💙

Further coverage of the discovery - that in some places - #hornshark and #PortJacksonshark are more significant urchin predators than Eastern Rock lobster (Sagmariasus verreauxi)

Obscure Shark(s) 19 are bullheads, a small order of sharks that make you start to wonder, what's a shark "supposed" to look like anyway? These are small, benthic sharks that lay eggs and terrorize crustaceans with knobby crushing teeth. 🦈🧪

Horn shark eggs are spiraled to allow them to attach to underwater structures such as rocks, seaweed, or coral, and the egg case is the color of kelp to keep hidden from predators.
