The #FolktaleWeek2024 prompt word for today is "Blight".

I felt that was hard for me (personally) to make pretty... So I leaned into straddling the gutter as a framing mechanism for text.

I also made a chapter heading spot illustration.

The 3rd #FolktaleWeek2024 prompt is #FolktaleWeekBlight so I carved & printed a Lino block print of an Itsumade. A supernatural creature from Japanese folklore called a kaichō, or strange or eerie bird, the Itsumade has a human face with sharp beak-like mouth, fearsome claws with talons as sharp 🧵
My linocut print Itsumade on 9” x 12” ivory washi paper shows the mythological creature with the face of a man complete with moustache, yellow bird beak, burgundy wings and legs with big claws and scaly green snake body swirling through the night sky between clouds and above the blue and grey roofs of a Japanese town.

Next week is #FolktaleWeek2024! I’m getting my #linocut prints finished for each prompt. This is for #FolktaleWeekBlight - a chimera creature from Japanese folklore in progress.

One final piece to finish after this. I’m really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!
A collection of prints, in their first stage, laid out in a grid on a tabletop to dry. Each print is on 9” x 12” white Japanese paper and printed with a looping green ribbon-like shape and smaller green curve.
