I took my test as FTM3, passed, and my detailer STILL got me a billet at FTM "A" school, but while I was attending school, BUPERS merged FTM and FTG ratings ( missiles and guns, respectively) into FC( fire control).

I enlisted at 17.
Got out of boot camp, was promoted to E2, six months later E3. I was 18. 19, struck for FTM3
At 20, I had to get dispensation as the only E5 allowed to drink in the Enlisted Club as it was on base, and the Petty Oficer Club was just outside the gate ( and subject to cali law).
