1 / Obviously Labour’s position is shameful but I do think it makes sense as the whole Starmer/McSweeney project was based around hitching itself to the US to create growth so capitalism could do a few nice things for poor people allowing them to get re-elected in 2029.

So many ‘super-teacher’ education strategies are basically designed to get the teacher to feel like they are responsible for bandaging-over problems produced en masse by the structural failings of society!

It’s really not fair on teachers and EPs should not fall into this trap!

Honestly sometimes I look at the fervent way in which some edu gurus describe what should be happening in classrooms and I'm exhausted just thinking about it. We will burn out the workforce if we make people think that they can never have a down moment. #EduSky

Labour came into govt promising growth, but have proven ideologically opposed to policies that would achieve this (ie. wealth tax, public sector spending)

As a last ditch attempt at growth they are now betting the farm on a tech bubble, no matter how damaging AI is to the public

Imagine having to sit in prison-like environs for two full days cus your boss didn’t like your hair.

The normalisation of this kind of stuff in our schooling system really should be understood as a national scandal

A prominent multi-academy trust has reduced the sanction it enforces when a child arrives with an "inappropriate hairstyle" - though the young person still faces two full days in "isolation" for this violation of its rules.

I do wonder if this is being kicked into the long-grass because there is no solution to the problem within Labour’s fiscal rules.

Defunding universal education and society at large was only ever going to lead to a spiralling SEND budget.

The solution is an end to austerity

Educational Psychologists for Material Change believe that inequality is produced and reproduced by the system in which we all live. We believe that to end inequality, material change is needed at a systemic level to redistribute wealth and power more equitably across society. This can be done through activism, at both the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary level. But we also think that consciousness and awareness raising plays an important role too. This is why we have decided to hold our first Community Learning Day, on the theme of Inequality and Psychology, on the 9 of January 2026. This will be a virtual event We are interested in hearing from educational psychologists and others in the fields of psychology and education who would like to present on this topic. We are particularly interested in centring the voices of those who have direct, lived experience of inequality in any and all of its forms. If you are interested please send us a title and brief outline of the talk you propose to deliver to epsformaterialchange@gmail.com Whilst we are in the early planning stages of this event, any fundraising done will be based on the following principles: - The event will be free to those who cannot afford to pay. - Those who can afford to pay may be asked to donate. - Any money raised will go towards a cause that helps to challenge inequality.
