Hey #mussel people! We put up a #preprint of our natural history note about the surprising abundance of mussels in Boston Harbor's middle islands (low wave exposure!) Enjoy! https://doi.org/10.32942/osf.io/syuxp @ecoevorxiv

Does anyone know of a search engine which searches all preprint archives, and only preprint archives (i.e., not Google Scholar)? In @europepmc.bsky.social I find @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social and EcoEvoRxiv , but not arXiv-Qbio.

Our pre-print on EcoEvoRxiv 👉 ecoevorxiv.org/repository/v...

"Dingo abundance and density was estimated as 77 (64–94) individuals and 0.014 (0.012–0.017) dingoes/km²—lower than previously reported estimates—and varied significantly in response to aspects of the fire regime and distance from roads."

🚨🚨 New preprint out now on EcoEvoRxiv about the impact of fossils (or lack thereof) on our ability to accurately reconstruct continuous trait evolution (ecoevorxiv.org/repository/v...)!

If you're at #Evol2024, check out @bethanyjallen.bsky.social 's talk at 4:30pm in 520D for details!

In this new preprint on ecoevorxiv we provide a detailed, practical guide to measuring CTmax and CTmin in aquatic animals.

Amazing team of authors! 🧪🐟🦑

In your experience, how long (in days) does it take for a preprint to be posted @ecoevorxiv after you submit it?

📢 Shoutout to the team Maximus Anochirim, Matthew Grainger and Gavin Stewart! @drmattg.bsky.social

Also, an obligatory reminder that (last time I checked) BioRxiv ridiculously does NOT allow abstracts in languages other than English.

For this reason, we included an abstract in Spanish and submitted to EcoEvoRxiv!!!

@phypapers.bsky.social will be posting the last month's worth of phylogenetic papers in the next 24 hours (~400 papers), so you might want to mute it for a day.

Now posts from PubMed, bioRxiv, EcoEvoRxiv, and arXiv.

We hope future researchers use the meta-analytic techniques we showcased, and meta-analysis of variance generally, together with large-scale datasets to study trait canalisation across species

Are you interested in understanding plasticity and GxE in multivariate traits across complex environments? If so, please check out my new EcoEvoRxiv preprint where I propose "covariance reaction norm" models for detecting and quantifying these processes. ecoevorxiv.org/repository/v...

This is a reasonable justification for why bioRxiv does not accept reviews.

BUT there are also perfectly good counterarguments, and EEB people should be aware that ecoevoRxiv *does* accept reviews.
This comes up frequently. bioRxiv has a no reviews/hypotheses/commentary policy. The rationale is signal:noise and a focus on being a venue for new research not discussion of existing work (for which there are excellent other venues e.g. PubPeer). 1/n

I think this is why it's good to have smaller niche venues that can have different, more subjective policies they don't have to apply/justify widely & evenly across tens of thousands of papers from different fields. i.e. eco/evo research on biorxiv but commentary on ecoevoRxiv works well 1/2

Interested in #vanilla agroforests, yields, and shade-tree rehabilitation?

We just submitted the revised manuscript and updated the #preprint on @ecoevorxiv after constructive and detailed feedback!

1/15 New preprint out on @EcoEvoRxiv!

We show that there are NO trade-offs between shade-trees and yield in #vanilla agroforests!

And canopy cover rehabilitates over time, suggesting restoration opportunities.

A thread 🧵 about our findings! 👇👇

A preprint of a full paper explaining the CEGS distribution model and the way it estimates species richness is now available on EcoEvoRxiv:
