If memory serves, Transport Infrastructure Ireland acknowledged *in advance* that the €215 million Dunkettle Interchange would not solve congestion in the N40.

They went ahead and did it anyway, because cars and because "strategic traffic" and because whatever you're having yourself.
N40 near Mahon yesterday. 🚘 & 🚛 as far as the eye can see on both sides in both directions. I could see two motorists on their phones too. How anybody can call the Dunkettle bullshit a success is utterly nuts. Many posts on reddit with lads chirping "but it saves me 2 minutes from before".

I'd to drive up to the big smoke this afternoon, christ it was painful having to go thru the dunkettle, traffic backed up to no end.

For context: Here is what councillors were expecting (circled in red) vs what is being put forward.

The proposed plans are not being brought forward by Cork City Council or Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the two roads authorities — but by the Port of Cork as a private application.
