A neighbouring landowner at Fenton Barns in East Lothian DC Watson & Sons has issued its support for the 20 year long campaign to create a safer place to walk and cycle from Drem to Gullane. The family run farm business has said it is firmly behind the proposed path - which only needs the agreement of one landowner in East Lothian to become a reality.

pictures of gullane town and drem station CAMPAIGNERS are urging East Lothian Council to break a near-20-year stalemate for the creation of a path between two county villages. A vision for a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists between Gullane and Drem has been talked about for nearly two decades. A letter has now been sent to Councillor Norman Hampshire, leader of East Lothian Council, in the hope that senior council officials will discuss the idea with the relevant landowners in a bid to see a way forward. Iain V Monk, campaign spokesperson, said: “Twenty years is far too long to wait for something of such clear and undeniable public value. “From schoolchildren to commuters, everyone stands to gain from a safe route between Drem and Gullane. "The B1345 is a danger zone — cyclists face serious hazards such as fast-moving vehicles and sharp bends, and there are no pavements to protect pedestrians. “Our message to Councillor Hampshire is simple: the council has the power to act and we are calling on it to do so — now.”

#WW2 Locally in East Lothian two Hampden were mistaken for German Dorniers in 1939 and shot down by Spitfires from Drem in a "Friendly fire incident". Both planes ditched in Gullane Bay & a 19 year old Airman LAC Terrance Gibb was killed. Three crew survived. #WorldWarTwo

Mr McLennan has asked that the council steps up to introduce a safe alternative route between the two villages which would have "substantial" benefits in terms of public safety and active travel.
