Culture is a massive issue in the NHS, and it used to be that some Trusts did do things better but they are the ones who aren’t failing quite as badly at the moment.

Culture comes from the top, and the DoHSC via NHSE can have a lot of influence as to who gets the top job in a Trust.

Do I agree that DoHSC could have better priorities? Yes

Love the aspirations - after getting in power you can increase budget, change legislation, employ people, tender things, build new buildings all in a few weeks not the 5 to 10 years it does take

Removing NHS England which duplicates DoHSC - effectively one bunch beaurocrats overseeing the other

However there's another recent issue. Around the last over 65 vax announcement last summer/autumn they mentioned that the DoHSC would publish an impact assessment. It did. All the numbers are redacted.

Yes, you’re right.
NHS England is a different body to DoHSC, but it turns out that there’s folk at DoHSC and NHS England doing the same work.

We survived without it prior to 2011 though.
