Another breezy but mild night at CMO HQ & a respectable 21/14 including migrant Rusty Dot Pearls & a Diamond-back. Moth of the night, by a considerable margin, was this gorgeous Mottled Umber ~ not sure we've ever had a smarter one👌

Coming in a close 2nd last night was our 2nd-ever Oak Rustic. The 1st record here was on December 1st last year & Lynnette had been hoping for another record this week. She definitely talked it up!
2025 moth left, 2024 moth right.

Mothing at the back end of the year doesn't always come with nights like last night, calm, mild & cloudy. 48/23 was a great result & *BOOM* along came a a cracker of an NFG too! Cosmopterix pulchrimella (Pellitory Beauty), only the 2nd for TG04.

The traps were on for the 1st time in a few nights last night as the weather temporarily settled down a bit & we were rewarded with our earliest-ever December Moth (earliest by a couple of days). Another superior autumn moth this one.

Caloptilia stigmetella ~ Willow Stilt (or White-triangle Stilt) ~ a new micro for both of us. Reared through from a grub-on-a-leaf found on the edge of the Glaven Valley at the start of the month 🙂

Here's a moth-y tale of the Ugly Duckling. October 2nd & Lynnette spots a tiny caterpillar/grub underneath a White Poplar leaf in the valley. We bring it home, it did the cocoon thing & we waited. Today, a stunning Caloptilia stigmetella emerged!

Satellite, another Clancy's Rustic, a Buff Footman & November Moth agg., from yesterday's 100+ moth morning. Buff Footman has a summertime flight period but this month there are already half a dozen records & we had another last night.

Less Large Wainscot, more of a XXL Wainscot this morning: an absolute monster of a moth, dwarfing one of its own. We've had a few big Large Wainscots in the past, even this autumn, but this one, wowsers!
Gorgeous pastel pink hue too...

Another very respectable night at CMO last night, 80/27, which included another Clancy's Rustic (easily our best year for them), a late-ish Dark Arches, a Sallow on the ivy & another marvellous Merveille du Jour ~ they are *so* good!

Taken on the actinic a couple of nights ago ~ a fresh-as Rosy Footman. As with a number of species, we're recording more & more early/late dates each year. This is first October record of Rosy Footman & is our latest by nearly seven weeks.

A few more of the NFG Feathered Ranunculus from two nights ago. Fascinating moth, colours changing at every turn almost. At night, after potting, the tiny golden spangles looked completely absent but in the morning light, a transformation.

This striking Caloptilia had us scratching our heads for a little while a couple of mornings ago. Lynnette worked it out pretty quickly: this was actually a very smart (& rather spotty) Caloptilia rufipennella - the Rufous Stilt.

A nice, round 100/25 this morning at CMO HQ. Clancy's Rustic remains a scarce visitor to the garden traps (it becomes only our 7th record to date - of 10 moths in total) whilst the fine-looking Brick was new for 2025 for us.
