Hospital data proves rudeness is dangerous.

80% of recipients lose time worrying. 38% reduce work quality. In the NHS, that means poorer care.

I wrote about why "being nice" is actually a critical safety mechanism. ⤵️

We can build an OR culture that protects sterility, civility and fairness. We must.

A break in civility contaminates the OR just as much as a break in sterility.
Both put patients at risk.

First new podcast win of BlueSky! Great acute med podcast series - very applicable to those of us over the other side of the referral line in EM.

This episode nicely covers the slightly dreaded hyponatraemia and dips into some good #CivilitySavesLives themes too 👍🏻
🚨New episode!

In this episode, we delve into fluid assessments on the acute take & how to manage hyponatraemia

We reflect on how to manage an incidental finding of low sodium

How would you manage this? Did we do things right or wrong? Would you have done anything differently?

The #CivilitySavesLives push shouldn’t be seen as a gimmick - in a stretched system and particularly heading into winter this needs to be a priority - the numbers are mind blowing

How incivility impacts everyone. Role model good behaviour, speak kindly, include others, drop assumptions & bias at the door. Everyone is watching, everyone notices bad behaviour. #CivilitySavesLives

Doesn't matter who you are teaching. I've seen student ODPs, student nurses spoken to with such disrespect. Ignored, belittled, talked over. In front of patients. What does the patient assume about their care? What do they feel about the person belittling or being humiliated? #CivilitySavesLives

Received another rude work email which has taken my mood down a notch for the day and stolen some energy. Will have to take some time to recharge before my next human encounter. 😢 We’re all doing our best here 🤷🏻‍♀️ #CivilitySavesLives #BeKind

Glad to see this infographic posted at my workplace! #incivility negatively impacts patient care, HCWs, and increases costs. #civilitysaveslives

Diffuse physiological arousal (DPA)causes tunnel vision, and inhibits effective problem solving. Can be triggered by incivility! #civilitysaveslives

Really excellent day yesterday @RUHBath - Leadership Conference for Trainees. Aimed at trainees from F1 - ST7+. Learned about being a compassionate leader with @CaraCBCEO, NHS work & future, #CivilitySavesLives, & much more. Truly excellent talk from @oscarlyonsnz on uncertainty.

Incivility has a negative impact on multiple areas of performance, even though one may not be aware of the effects at the time. Operating room sim study
