whoops, bookthread has fallen into shame and disrepair. No matter. 16! Hunchback by Saou Ichikawa is very matter of fact about what it's like to be disabled in a culture (Japan, in this case) that is not well equipped to look after its disabled populace.
15! For whatever reason, a lot of A Leopard-Skin Hat by Anne Serre just bounced off me without penetrating, but I think there's some good stuff in there about failing to help people and making art about them instead.
14! It rules that every bad review of Intermezzo by Sally Rooney has a different reason. Straightforward social Realism still has the power to make everyone mad. That's heartening. Great style and voice, good characters, possibly unearned ending but it felt nice.
