We prefer arguments that conclude what we already believe (a la #beliefBias or #MySideBias).

But @nicolasbeauvais.bsky.social and @wimdeneys.bsky.social found people can quickly discern strong self-serving arguments from weaker ones.

Discernment also increased with reflection...and #AI model size!

Can group reasoning reduce #beliefBias?

Group (vs. Individual) reasoning helped Argentinian students realize when unbelievable conclusions followed logically from premises — not so for *believable* conclusions that *didn't* follow from premises.

Researchers reported a “significant validity-desirability interaction": Argument assessment depended on both the personal desirability of the conclusion and the validity of its argument (N = 300).
