This week we were at #BESMove2025, where @giovannasandretti.bsky.social presented our results on the overlooked pre-migratory flights.
The conference title of this year was "Understanding Migration", and she came back home full of fresh insights and great new connections!

A great thank you to the organizers of #BESMove2025!

It was really nice meeting new and old friends, hearing about so many interesting studies and even enjoying nice weather that allowed me to see the local wildlife 😅.

See you next year?

What a great and welcoming community at #BESMove2025! Was a real pleasure to share a cultural perspective on #bird #migration based on field and tracking studies of raptors and shorebirds.
We're kicking off day 2 of our annual meeting with a plenary by @wmgvs.bsky.social on raptor and seabird migration #BESMove2025

Our final plenary was by @aldinafranco.bsky.social taking us through 10 years of movement ecology at our host institution, UEA. Interesting insights from the reintroduced white storks in the UK, and a brief mention of boulder tagging to track landslides! #BESMove2025

This morning's talks have been on the theme of threats to migration and other movement behaviours. We've heard about adult vs juvenile migration strategies, dispersal and wildlife corridors, human-driven causes of mortality, prey depletion/displacement and more! #BESMove2025

This year's meeting theme is Understanding Migration. So far we've learned lots about how migration and flocking are affected by energetics, memory, personality and safe sea passages, from studies on storks, pigeons and falcons #BESMove2025
