Lots of visible parallel brushstrokes of similar variant colors close together add texture and liveliness to every surface. framed canvas oil painting of apples, wide yellow ceramic bowl, and folded white cloth napkin spilling off left edge of frame against brick red background. Three apples, 2 green and one red, are inside bowl, one outside resting on napkin. Some surfaces pick up reflected tint of objects facing them, especially bowl which reflects lighter napkin. Again, lots of variant-color brushstrokes side by side on each object make surfaces complex rather than flat areas of color. Photo of last canvas on easel, looking nearly finished with a few areas less worked; to right of canvas and behind it about 5-8 feet away is a stand like a shelf with a back wall draped in brick-red cloth with the real life apples, bowl, napkin sitting on it; a light from out of frame to right and in front of the stand illuminates the setup and casts shadows.
