Colony of Ochrolechia lichen on a rock. The clusters of apothecia look like horse teeth. There is orange tinge in the core part while the rest of the colony is light to medium grey.

Huge specimen of Cetrelia sp., possibly Cetrelia braunsiana. This one is so gorgeous with the distinct psueudocyphellae and aggressive isidia. This even had apothecia which seem to be rare. Lake Matsubara, Koumi-machi, Nagano #Lichen #FungiFriends

Close-up of the isidia along the edge of lobe of Cetrelia lichen. The isidia are small balck protrusions that are abundant alon ghte lobe edge and some on the surface of the lobe. The lobe edge is wavy. Colony of Cetrelia lichen on stone lantern. There are dense isidia in the central part of the colony, and they become confined to edge of lobes as it spreads out. There are no isidia on the extreme tip of the lobes. Here, there are clear white markings and black edge. Some apothecia in the middle part (not clear in the photo).

Close-up of the apothecia bowl of Parmotrema lichen. The bowl has red-brown interior with green-grey rim. Large clump of soralia can be seen as well as the black cilia. Apothecia bowls and oblong soralia of Parmotrema lichen. The bowls are emerging from the surface of the lobes. They can be seen in various stages of development, and they look like tea cup when immature and then become irregular as they mature. The fat pillows of soralia can be seen on the edge of the lobes.

Went to Lake Matsubara to see the autumn colors. Pleasant autumn day and lots of people. Not much lichen photo this time, just strolling around.

I think this is Phaeophyscia sp. that found a nice spot on the stonewall amongst other lichens. Not too many Phaeophyscia in this area, and when I do see them, they seem to be well-settled. Lake Matsubara, Koumimachi-machi, Nagano #Lichen #FungiFriends #LichenFriends

People who visit Lake Matsubara in New Year either come to pray at the Suwa Shrine or do smelt fishing. The ice is not sufficiently thick, so fishers have to stay on floating piers. I think people pay a bit more to fish in the warm greenhouse.

A jumping spider crouched on a colony of pixie cup lichens. The spider is brown tabby with its head tucked in so can’t see the eyes. The pixie cup has irregular shaped funnels; some look like they’d been smashed together. The thallus is powdery ash-green.
