The UN Security Council called an emergency meeting in New York for Monday to discuss Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, which has drawn sharp criticism from regional and international actors.

Widely seen as a pretext for intervention in Somalia and securing a strategic foothold near critical shipping routes, Israel's recognition of breakaway Somaliland - the only state to provide such recognition - will be taken up in UNSC emergency session.
