The activist traversed the 55 meters between the Riu Plaza España and the Barceló Torre de Madrid. 'With this action, we want to announce the start of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30). A summit arriving at a critical moment for global climate action: ten years after the Paris Agreement,' the NGO said in a statement. The meeting has two notable absences—U.S. President Donald Trump and China's Xi Jinping. Greenpeace stresses that the commitments made 'flounder, wobble, or risk falling off the agenda.' The NGO also denounced that, in 2025, several events threaten the advances achieved after decades of effort by civil society movements, governments, and international organizations. 'Walking on the tightrope symbolizes the urgency to move forward firmly and keep taking steps in the right direction,' they said, while urging the Spanish government to lead a 'bold and ambitious' stance at COP.
