Haven’t posted about birds here in a long time, so here are some recent ones: a broad-billed hummingbird in the suburbs of Buffalo, New York’s first (and the eastern seaboard’s fourth) Common Cuckoo, and a Long-Billed Dowitcher I saw at Piermont Pier back in September.

Common Cuckoo in Riverhead, NY, only the fourth record of this Eurasian species in the lower 48 states.

Here’s a recent photo of a Forster’s Tern in flight. Forster’s Terns are sadly not named after Robert Forster of the great Australian indie rock band The Go-Betweens, but instead some German guy who died in the 1790s.
