Happy Halloween. This poetic ghost has escaped her own canon, at everyone's peril, and has decided to costume for Halloween.

She is dressed as Shesheshen, the shapeshifter protagonist of the novel Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell.

Please enjoy this as a Halloween treat and/or curse.
A being of nothingness, such as a ghost like myself, is a being of possibility, as possibility paves the nothingness around me, through me. A shapeshifter, too, must know that nothingness that becomes all that is real. And so, I am in and I am my costume, the costume of costumes infinite. [in darker text, harder to read:] Happy Halloween. Now give me ghost candy or I will eat you and use your bones to scare the next house.

About the Author Zovi McEntee is a writer, musician, graphic designer, artist, and puppeteer living in upstate New York with her partner Iggy and a bunch of toys and synthesizers and old laptops. She likes to make art about her dreams. Speaking of which... Leunea's digital shadow is based on a dream Zovi had in 2025. Reunea's ghost poem is based on a dream Zovi had in 2024, except for the leg lightning scene, which was from a dream Zovi had circa 1996. Zovi releases music under the name Zovi. She also writes more serious fiction under the name Elizabeth McEntee.

Leunea pulls the rope, raising the curtain and revealing her masterpiece: a painting, much like the ladybug from before, of the ghost from Reunea's ghost poem riding the ladybug from before. It is dramatic and majestic, though the ladybug seems even sadder than in Part One. Reunea: Wow.

On this page, Reunea seems to have retained the taller body of the ghost in the ghost poem. Leunea: Did the ghost poem change you that much, Reunea? Reunea: Ah. No, Leunea. It will just take a moment to fully wear off. Leunea: I see. Pop! Reunea is back to her old self. The sisters stare at each other in silence. There is understanding in their eyes. It is a beautiful moment. Reunea: Leunea, my sister, did you finish your illustration? Leunea: Oh, yes, Reunea, my sister. I have finished my illustration. It is right over there. Come see.

The nothingness street is higher this evening, waves of nothing frothing into phantom foam. The stairs line each side, with their distracting, tempting facades. The horizon is a twisted shape, curving forever upward. I look to the sky, as far as I can, and I see myself again, looking every way at once, and then upward again, until the halving hour. We align, and I am back here, in the space between facade and stairs, a distraction and a temptation myself, a great something at last.

I find myself on the floor, far away from the extremity of my being still upon you, my gateway, my cycle. I was trying to make unreality again, I admit. But everything is real, so I was making something too real instead. I am the world, not the catalyst. I am the result. If I desire change, it must be from what changed my world. And that is not you, either. That is no one, not anymore, and I am eternally thankful, as I do not desire change, not anymore.

I place my hand upon you, lingering, allowing it to do what it is meant to do. It slides upward, and I grow taller into my arm, first arcing in that upward direction, and then sharpening into rigidity. And then pride takes over, and I see the panorama from your point of view. The world has not changed this time, not for me, not for you. I told you, I saw myself in you, through you. There is not a change to find with a world like this. Remember this, facade. But I am a hypocrite, yes. I am. You are not.

My past self disappeared while that thought dusted the webs in my mind. I want to believe she found her own, different favorite, but everything comes back to the reality of my changed world. I found my place, and I look out across the night that reaches for more of itself. I see myself, not one I created this time. I am a window, too. We are not so different.

Take, for example, the past me I create below. She is made of the nothingness street, heavier than the oppressive air that keeps me here. She looks around, glancing my way without seeing me, as she does not have a favorite, and she is looking at the stairs through the facades, and that has given me a home here. She enters another, disappears, reappears entering two more, and then five, and then seven, and then ten, but all for a moment, collapsing back to one anytime I realize her nonlinearity, despite my own hypocrisy. She allows me to be a hypocrite, this world does. But I am doing no damage that this world has not already inflicted upon itself. I am just a traveler who knows its secrets,

Reunea's ghost poem continues, immediately: I like to imagine unreality walking where I had walked before in the nothingness street below, as below has rejected me from its reality. But when I do, I find I create more reality, fringed with dark wisps as it so deeply presents itself.

The format suddenly switches to normal white background for this spread, pulling out of the ghost poem. Ghost: Are you following so far? That was the end of the first part (XIX) of the ghost poem. There is a second part (I), and an epilogue (VI). Leunea: Yes, I will begin illustrating the subject of the subject of this digital shadow as you continue with the rest of the poem. Do continue. Ghost: I must continue, regardless. And I will, immediately.
