This past weekend, I picked up the September 25, 1971 issue of 'Manga Sunday'. It's mostly gag manga aimed at young men (with some legends like Shotaro Ishinomori contributing). What really caught my eye were these pen and ink illustrations of gag manga-ka Yasuji Tanioka.

This past weekend, I picked up the September 25, 1971 issue of 'Manga Sunday'. It's mostly gag manga aimed at young men (with some legends like Shotaro Ishinomori contributing). What really caught my eye were these pen and ink illustrations of gag manga-ka Yasuji Tanioka.
It was also one of those stories where Batman genuinely is trying to help reform one of his villains, which I like.

I ended up getting two copies of this yesterday, read it last night, one of Alan Moore's only times writing Batman-proper other than The Killing Joke. Surprisingly sad story, really makes you feel sympathy for the Preston Payne version of Clayface (who is genuinely mentally ill).

Remember when Iron Man was cool? A lot of Gary Panter's influence in this, as well as Tony Millionaire's take on Iron Man from the early-2000's anthology 'Strange Tales', which featured a litany of alternative and indie cartoonists giving their interpretation of Marvel characters.
