I have the non-critical parts shutdown when I'm away. These would be things I use when I'm actively home such as Change Detection, Code Server, Krusader, and my testing VMs. Typically I can shutdown my R440 entirely when I'm away.

I don't live in a place that has Google Fiber anymore. I had the same experience though, the only time my fiber was down was because a trencher went right through the line while installing underground sprinklers. FiOS has been decent though.
