If your baby grows up to be twice as big as you that just means you did double good at parenting. (My official servers daspletosaurus in path of titans raised a baby tyrannosaurus rex all the way to sub-adult stage today.)

No one asked, but I am gonna think about this bit from John Clute's 1998 introduction to The Lensmen books for a while. (Brackets are context I added for my friends.)
It backs up a lot of stuff I already kinda thought re: what the appeal of sf was to conservative types.

![This is the secret. Doc Smith and his peers -- and A.E. Van Vogt, who walked alone -- may all have loved the task of conceiving futures, but, at the same time, each one of these sf writers manifestly displayed a very deep distrust and fear of anything that hinted at any of the unfolding "real" futures that have refilled the water holes of our infancy with mutagens. The Lensmen series is escapist, as much good fiction is, and we love it for that, but it does not escape 1930: it escapes the future.
Certainly both writers invoke superscience and super Technics, in terms only marginally more magical than those used by Golden Age writers, but they do so to transport us out of reach of anything that might actually happen. If it can be said that, in 1998, sf is best defined as an historical body of story concerning the real nature of the 20th century, then it must be said that neither E.E. Smith nor A.E. Van Vogt could remotely be described as contributing to that body of story. Hence the extraordinary cultural fixity of our home planet in Doc Smith's vision of Tellus: it is a world in which nothing dangerous (i.e., nothing that might resemble 1998 or, for that matter, 1938) has been allowed to happen. Women are gals, nuclear families are tender-trap monads, "culture" is a froth of vaguely indecent curds and whey, there is no democracy to take away the toys of the game, because the World Government (which seems to have been run for hundreds of years by successive Kinnison [The Kinnison bloodline is an important special perfect family name in these]) has solved every political problem in the entire world. There are no computers (not even in the last-written volumes of the series), no punk, no genetic engineering, no Marlon Brando, no perestroika, no Bob Dylan, no cities, no Hillary Clinton Wife Spoof, no Unabomber, no ghettos, no suburbs, no planetary crisis of any sort (atomic, ecological, ethnic, whatever), nothing. The only mention in Oblivion, which takes place later, is a brief moment where it specifically calls out a situation where John is "not trying to be a hero" with a call he makes, thus demonstrating the lesson learned.

I'm reading wraeththu again because I hate myself and have to win but more importantly, look at this thing I had to use a knife to make the sd card port widee to actually use it. (Also, it's a special princess that I have to format books in txt with a specific line length in order to enjoy reading.)

I feel like I should show the Nidorino sketch because he's the reason I came back, this little gremlin was begging to be drawn properly since 2022.
