A little break, as a treat!
Cloudy sunset, the silhouette of a distant hill contrasting against the orange sky. The bottom of the picture is a series of hills, barely illuminated in the late winter evening, covered in trees and mediterranean bush. The top 2/3rds are instead a shot of the sky. The clouds on the right side are the highest, and so are lit by the setting sun from below, becoming a beautiful display of orange, pink and purple. On the left side the clouds were much closer to the ground, and were not touched by direct sunlight, leaving them with a grey/blue appearance, sort of like the sea on a windy and cloudy day, with the white foam breaking up the darker water beneath.

Hiking on a warm, cloudy January day.
The picture is taken at the end of Serra Oseli, a long crest near the border between the Urzulei and Baunei’s municipalities. The valley beneath is part of the Codula di Luna, near Teletottes.
Me, sitting on a limestone block with my back turned against the camera and my legs dangling over the edge. I’m wearing an old white helmet, of the type that climbers use, a black t-shirt and a black backpack. My arms are pointed behind me, straight, bearing some of my bodyweight as i lean slightly backwards. My head is rotated to the left, exposing the profile of my nose, illuminated by the sunlight. My beard and glasses are barely distinguishable, and had i not known they were there i would have guessed they were part of the harness that keeps my helmet on my head. The limestone block is part of a bigger hill, more of a monolith, but only a small 3m wide section is visible, so it appears i’m sitting on a light grey boulder. On the other side of the boulder, a vast green valley opens up, and the perspective highlights the height difference between where i’m sitting and the bottom of the valley. The picture is taken at around my height, keeping the horizon in the middle of the frame, so that the boulder itself covers the part of the hill that extends towards the valley, giving the impression that the drop is more dramatic than it actually is. In the very back, the main valley splits into two (the picture is oriented upstream, so it’s really the two valleys connecting to form the main one right beneath me), and some far off mountains take a deep blue tint against the setting sun. The sky is mostly grey, as it was a rather cloudy day, except for a thin blue patch, which opened up at the perfect moment to let the sun pierce through, giving anything that’s illuminated a golden tint and making the shadows appear darker with contrast.

A thin layer of white ice covering a clearing in the mediterranean bush, so thin that grey limestone rocks and green blades of grass protrude out of it. Despite the similarity in color, the rocks in the background are not covered in ice, they are simply grey limestone. Bottom of the picture is the surface of an old artificial clearing, made to burn wood and make charcoal. At the edge of the clearing, some asphodel and juniper-trees outline the thin path. I’m not certain about the nature of one of the trees, it might not be a juniper, but i didn’t notice back then, i’m not gonna walk there now just to check, sorry :/ At the same level of the bottom of the trees, there are a black and a light blue patches, which are the backpacks of my two friends. Right behind them, there is the left wall of the canyon(?) that we are walking, grey as the limestone that makes it, and green as the trees that grow on it. Finally, on the top side of the picture, the sky. It was cloudy that day, and the oversaturated sky looks white, almost brighter than the rocks. Me, smiling and holding my phone up with with the flashlight on. A smiling guy, wearing a black jacket and a black beanie, holds up their phone at a concert to make some light. He is wearing rectangular glasses, and has a dark, longish beard. (Hope this is enough, if you need more details pls let me know i’ll do my best)

On a clear winter day, a moron finds a funny mirror on the ground.
Pic taken at Perda Liana, in Gairo, Sardinia. It was chilly enough to allow us to find ice in the northern side of the hill, but the sun had already made quick work of any solid water on this side.
The shadow of me, crouching and holding two fingers in a v shape, cast on a puddle with a big rock in the distance. The puddle is reflecting the image of the monolith in the distance. The rest of the picture (upper two thirds) portrays a cone shaped hill, on top of which sits a 50m tall rock, standing out against the monochromatic clear sky.

Me, sitting on the edge of a 40m drop with my legs swinging over the edge. I’m in the bottom left corner, sitting with my back turned towards the camera and my head slightly turned towards my right shoulder. I am wearing a dark grey, long sleeved sweatshirt (it isn’t exactly a sweatshirt, it has a longer neck and a short zip but i can’t find the name for it), a black backpack and a red and blue beanie. From the profile of my head you can see i’m wearing glasses and my beard. I’m sitting on a juniper log, as long as the bottom frame of the picture, and of a lighter shade of gray than my sweatshirt. In front of me a canyon runs a couple kilometers all the way to the sea. To be precise, right beneath me there is Bacu Addas (bacu is a sardinian word that roughly translates to canyon), followed by Bacu Sa Ena, and then Codula ‘e Sisine (codula being the sardinian word for river bed). As always, most of the picture is made grey by the limestone. The canyons give enough way for a v-shaped slice of sea to be seen. On the top right corner there is a thin slice of the Orosei’s gulf, and only its northernmost point is visible in the surrounding sea. On the top left corner there is a juniper tree, darkened by the lack of sunlight at the moment the picture was taken. The sky isn’t entirely clear, most of it is covered by grey clouds, leaving only a thin slice free over the sea.

Brief hike on a windy and cloudy day. Found some big rocks and nice views :)
A bird’s eye view of Golgo, a valley a couple kilometers north of Baunei. The bottom half of the picture portrays the valley itself, with young vegetation (mostly mediterranean bush) and some large patches of grass. The very bottom of the picture shows the eastern side of the “canyon” (bear with me english is my second language) that goes all the way to Cala Sisine, and there are some dark volcanic rocks around 20m tall. Right above those rocks, a red tiled roof protrudes out of the green tree-tops, from there up the bush gives way to the grass pasture, which is way lighter in colour. On the left side of the picture, on the edge of the grass patch there is a small church, named after saint Peter, and on its right side there are some huge olive trees, as tall as the building itself. The perspective makes it look like the grass patch ends at the feet of the hills that surround the valley, but there is a small dip in the terrain right behind them that you cant see from this POV. While the valley itself is a mix of clay-rich soil and dark volcanic rocks, the hills that surround it are made of limestone, hence their much lighter grayish color, dotted by trees and bushes. Lastly, the sky wasn’t clear today, so there are a couple different clouds overlapping and covering the blue. Since i was facing towards east, some of the clouds are being lit from a low angle and show up as a bright white patch among the darker grey clouds. Me, sitting in front of a wall made of limestone blocks. Can’t be sure of its origin, but it might be the remnants of an old nuragic fortification, given its proximity to the Nuraghe just ~500m away. The limestone and the clouds all have the same grey colour, while i’m wearing blue jeans, a red jumper with rolled up sleeves, and a blue beanie. I’m basically sitting on my heels, so all you can see are my knees, shins and torso, with my arms resting on my laps and hands in between my legs. I’m looking at the camera, giving it my best attempt at a smile, but i set the camera a bit too far so there isn’t much detail to be seen. You’ll have to trust me that i have a dark beard, and I wear glasses :)

A nice drink out with friends, back in Turin to celebrate a mate’s degree.
An unstirred New York Sour, sitting on a dark table outside with some apartment buildings on the background. The picture is taken with the camera close to the table, below the plane of the surface of the liquid. The cocktail is in a smooth cylindrical glass, which lacks any forms of decorations on its surface. On top of it there is a small layer of foam, which has an off-white color. The main body of liquid has two distinct colors, dividing the glass in two cylindrical subsections: the top half is a deep red, almost the same color of blood, due to the red wine added at the end of the cocktail-making process; the bottom half is a faint orange, verging towards yellow, and it’s the color of the whisky and lemon juice; the two layers are separated by a thin orange line. Neither of the layers are homogeneous because of the ice cubes, since the ones that sit nearest to the glass appear as white smudges floating in the liquid.

This is a picture taken roughly 20 mins after sunrise on the eastern coast of Sardinia, while my brother and I were driving to pick up some luggage in Genn’e Mudregu, Baunei.
Sunrise on the Orosei’s gulf, in Sardinia. The black mass on the bottom of the pic is the outline of Bacu Maore seen from the road to Genn’e Mudregu. Above that there is the reflection of the sun on the sea, which looks like an elongated orange spotlight illuminating a wavy pattern below a bright orange-red bright spot (I’d love to know why there are two separate reflections of the same object, unfortunately I study chemistry and can’t explain with certainty why that’s the case). The horizon is masked by a grayish thick layer of fog and clouds, lightly tinted by the early sunlight. The clouds are thickest near the horizon and transition to a light brush towards the top of the layer. The sun is barely peaking around the top cloud, as the picture was taken around 20 minutes after “sunrise”, and appears as a white smudge spread across the uppermost cloud layer. The rest of the image is the clear sky, but its blue colour lacks saturation due to the sun’s brightness.

A very small apple sitting on a table. The apple is roughly 3x3x2 cm^3, and it’s larger than it is taller. Its color is close to a dark pink, and from the angle the picture is taken it appears homogeneous. The table it sits upon is made of wood, it has a very rough finish and it feels coarse when passing my fingers on its surface. The grain if the wood shows and it is possible to tell apart the singular planks that make it up. The background is made up of the rest of the kitchen, a bunch of drawers and the chairs. A close-up of the previous little fella, with a 20 pence coin for reference. The coin is sitting upright, slightly slanted backwards and resting on the apple, showing the side with the 20 imprinted on it. It is an heptagonal shape, with slightly rounded corners. On the visible side is impressed the shape of a flower, and just above it a crown. On the sides are engraved the words “TWENTY PENCE”, in the bottom centre of the coin, in similar fashion, a 20 is split by the thorny stem of the flower.

A variation of Magritte’s painting “The Treachery of Images”, in which the pipe is covered by a stock picture of a potato (cropped from the picture in the original post), and the word “pipe” is painted over and the words “pomme de terre” are put in its place. Unfortunately i couldn’t find a font similar enough to the cursive in the original painting, so i settled for a standard font.

Antichi reperti pre-Covid.
La prima (e finora unica) volta che sono salito su Punta Caroddi.
Me wearing an orange t-shirt and white helmet, looking at the camera and holding the rock as tight as I could. I cannot figure out how far away from the ground we were at this point, but i guess we were getting close to the half-way mark. The alt-text from the first pic applies to this as well. It is a wider shot, so you can see Cala Goloritzè on the top-right corner. The beach itself is in the shadow of the adjacent cliff, but the crystal-clear water is still illuminated. The grey mass you can see in the bottom right corner is the rock of Punta Caroddi, the gigant limestone monolith we were climbing that day. Pretty much everything else is an assortment of Mediterranean bush, sitting at the bottom of the “canyon” that connects Golgo to the cala.

An overview of Cala Biriala at the beginning of the last day of Selvaggio Blu. The sky was clear and the water calm. On the bottom left corner the “mountains” covered by the Mediterranean bush run all the way to the sea, on the top left the northernmost part of the Orosei’s Gulf can be seen. Near the beach the water is turquoise, gradually becoming darker away from the shore. It was so clear that you can see the rocks on the bottom of the sea and some dark spots breaking the otherwise wite seafloor (my guess is those are Poseidonia, but couldn’t find any confirmation).

The view from Punta Salinas is marvelous. It was lucky of me to find such a clear winter day, which allowes for good visibility over the Orosei Gulf.
A picture I took from a viewpoint in Punta Salinas, right above Cala Goloritzè, Baunei. It sits at around 500m (roughly 1.5k ft), dominating over the canyon of Goloritzè, which sits on the bottom left corner of the picture. Right above, on the other side, Serr’e Lattone is the block of limestone that stretches all the way to Cala Sisine, just a tiny bit is visible. On the horizon Cala Gonone and the rest of the Gulf are visible, but not very clearly due to some fog. The sky and the sea are both calm and uniform, and without the fog on the horizon it would be hard to say where one stops to give way to the other. Finally, where the sea touches land closest to the bottom left corner, there sits Cala Goloritzè, partially blocked by the monolith called Punta Caroddi. The limestone gravel that makes up the beach reflects light at the bottom of the sea, making it easy to see through in clear days and giving the water its characteristic green-blue opalescence.

I’m not used to be very active on social media, and tbh I’m kind of scared, but maybe this is the right time to begin! Here is an old picture of me, posing for the camera while abseiling. The place is called Esene, right above Teletottes, eastern Sardinia.
The picture shows me abseiling down a 10-15 meters drop and was taken from above. I am stationary and held by the rope, looking up to the camera and giving it my best impression of a smile. Around my shoulders sits a green rope which i was taking down, and at the bottom of the drop three people sit far away from the “landing zone”. The place is a canyon carved by water in a limestone block and it looks grey and monotonous, making it hard to perceive depth accurately. The few trees are found in the middle of the canyon, where a bit of sediment allowed them to find a place to grow, with the notable exception of the juniper tree that sits on the right of the screen, closest to the camera, which found its home in a crack in the limestone.
