Dawni is looking forward to the cat show and enjoying our solo time in Astoria!

Wish her luck! She placed best in a show with 3x as many cats, so if she decides she's in a good mood, she'll nail this!

By identifying and testing intermediates in the pathways to diverse natural compounds, we may find potent new antibiotics with more resilience to resistance that will aid us in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

The next step in the development of pre-methylenomycin C lactone will be pre-clinical testing and lab-testing to fully understand its potential as an antibiotic- both in the mechanisms through which it works and the pathogen targets that it hits.

With experts increasingly worried about antibiotic resistance -already responsible for millions of deaths each year- the need for new and resilient drugs to tackle infections is urgent, as bacteria continue to evolve.

What's particularly promising is that Enterococcus bacteria exposed to pre-methylenomycin C lactone for 28 days straight DID NOT become resistant to it, suggesting the compound could remain effective over the long term.

When tested, one of these intermediates- pre-methylenomycin C lactone- proved to be OVER 100 times more active against a range of Gram-positive bacteria (the kind that are getting smarter at outwitting our current antibiotics) than methylenomycin A. It was particularly effective against

By deleting biosynthetic genes, researchers discovered two previously unknown biosynthetic intermediates, both of which are much more potent antibiotics than methylenomycin A itself.

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers have just identified a powerful new antibiotic that is 100x STRONGER than existing drugs against deadly superbugs like MRSA and VRE. Hiding in a well-known soil bacterium, pre-methylenomycin C lactone KILLS drug-resistant bacteria WITHOUT triggering resistance.
