The main focus of this painting are subsurface scattering and bounce light(I recommend searching these terms up), they create interesting and saturated color transitions on the subjects of this painting. The colors of the orange go from white, yellow, orange and almost to red-orange color at the darker parts, away from the direct sunlight. The colors of the hand go from white, to fleshy reds where the subsurface scattering happens, to dark reds in the shadows and muted flesh tones on the rest of the hand where the sunlight isn't hitting it directly. Where the hand is holding the orange, bounce light from the orange affects the color of the hand, turning the skin slightly orange.
