My favourite is how Google deliberately made their search worse because people were getting the results they needed too fast, so they weren't meeting their ad serving targets.

For some desktop sites' searches I've seen an utterly moronic thing where, if your mouse pointer is lingering over the space where the suggestions pop up, ANY keystroke can confirm the irrelevant guess as your desired search term. Absolutely criminal stupidity in design.
