though it's largely similar in english, the JP version of sage and big's interaction in crossworlds seems to be more explicit about the fact that big thought that sage was a ghost. this was already implied in english via big's "oh, you're real!" comment but still worth noting

on halloween 2022, the official sonic jp twitter account posted art of big and froggy dancing in the middle of pumpkin hill upon seeing the moon. their dance seems to attract the ghosts, who one by one begin to dance along with them. king boom boo is also there because why not

in sonic and the secret rings, the ninth entry of big's travel diary has him sitting between two gargoyles to fit in with them and... grow wings? gargoyles are said to also play a spiritual role in driving away evil spirits... i'm sure you can see the pattern by now

strangely, in team roses hang castle, big does not scream at the sight of ghosts like the two members in team rose do and appears relatively more nonchalant about it (screenshots both from EN and JP versions). his nonchalance towards ghosts becomes a recurring part of his character after this game

although not present in the final game itself, big would have mentioned froggy returning back to normal after rescuing him from chaos 6's clutches. this just further reinforces that froggy was not himself throughout the entire campaign

this one's admittedly a huge stretch (as if all of this probably isn't already) but big reeling froggy out of chaos 6 could be metaphorically interpreted as exorcising the very demon that possessed his body

her reason for appearing to big is the same as anyone else in that game, which is to show them these flashbacks and hopefully get the cast to seal chaos once again on her behalf

it doesn't end there however, as froggy being possessed by chaos' tail could metaphorically be interpreted as an evil spirit (a demon) taking control over one's body to use as its vessel to carry out a malicious act
