No, I was not at the inauguration today. There is one other Zander Goss in the world, from Florida (which probably explains the ludicrous idea of going to the inauguration). I used to get his emails a lot (including one time he tried to email himself his homework and accidentally sent it to me).

It’s exchanges like this, and almost anything from @dreadships.bsky.social that I missed most upon leaving the Old Place. So happy to be feasting on this kind of discussion here
The madness that is the English legal doctrine of Royal Fish. If a whale washes up on the shore, its body is owned by the King because, despite being a rotting carcass of a mammal in law it is a fish and a royal one and that. And who does the King task with sorting it out? The Receiver of Wreck...
"The King has no general property in fish... With respect however to whales and sturgeons, it was always a doctrine of the common law that they belong to the King"

After hemming and hawing, I finally watched Civil War film by Alex Garland. The press perspective was clever lens through which to approach this subject. Film was well done.

Now to mull over how I would react to that scenario in my birth country….

What are the most frustrating eggcorns that fellow lawyers keep encountering?

A recent case had repeated references to ‘Body Warn Footage’. I’ve lost count how many times I see or hear people say this, and it drives me batty.

After 4 student visas, two spousal visas, and getting Indefinite Leave to Remain, today I took UK citizenship. After a celebratory lunch, I took my first sip of tea as a British national (I retain my US citizenship)

So now that there’s actually a mass of people on here that I used to engage with in the Other Place, I’m finally posting on here! Excited to re-engage with the #UKlaw community. Is that what we’re calling it? #UKLawSky? Or Legal Bluesphere? The Legal Skymanati? Skyrati?
