D'oh! I absolutely didn't clock that, so thanks. Post hoc rationalisation makes me think that good was slightly cleaner and spicier. Without the slightly soapy character.

And yet, there's something more polished about this than any of the preceding ones (Westward excepted). It's somehow cleaner, more assertive, with the usual vanilla oak, but also some nutty cocoa or chocolate in there, an underlying richness. Good.

But the whiskey - Bulleit Frontier, 45%abv, somehow reminds me of Spain, with a hint of sherry bodega and orange peel, as well as oak. There's a faint floral note that carries onto the palate, not totally to my taste (a bit soapy?) turning into a whisper of coconut at the end. Good overall though.

No, it was a very thoughtful gift from The Wife.

Wow. Crazy times.

Something lurking in the background gives some complexity, like a dieselly Riesling, or maybe balsamic vinegar? Big and chunky like an Aussie chardonnay on the palate, but that little funkiness stops it being too one- dimensional. Very good.

It was given with the words "happy Christmas", so make of that what you will.
