driving through very rural virginia near west virginia today we saw a quite large group (20ish) of anti trump protestors with canadian and ukrainian flags with a much much smaller (1-2 people) group of counter protestors

Universities keep thinking "If we just give Trump what he wants, he won't attack us" despite the entire 20th century (and most of human history) proving otherwise.

Do none of these institutions have history departments?
Northwestern should be ashamed that they've bowed to political pressure, thereby threatening us all.

They hired Steven, in part, for the very social justice activism they are now denying him tenure over. I'm proud to call @thrasherxy.bsky.social a friend and appreciate his courage.

it's always tickled me that Montréal orients everything in the city by the St.-Lawrence river, using their own compass based on the flow of the river for naming things, which leads to situations where one of the most southeastern boroughs is named southwest...
