Nearly all city or regional newspapers have or are being bought up by private equity. Alden Capital alone owns 600-700, and they're one of many. It's the usual model, fire everyone, sell the data and real estate, then bleed them dry and toss away the empty husk.

The idea is simple:

(1) We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to give their side of the story, if they want to.

(2) If someone has information that could refute something we plan to publish or cast it in a new light, we want to know that before publication — not after.

This, the Soul, Mirage, etc. are victims of product planning and predicting nothing would change with fuel economy standards. People have been debating whether it was a good idea or not but the fact remains that product plans can't change overnight, contrary to what the White House and NHTSA want

There was such high demand for any hybrid in 2008 that Toyota was being pushed by California and other states to build Priuses in the US. Once gas prices fell dramatically again, no one wanted any small car

With more large hybrid vehicles more Americans are willing to make a permanent change

When their local printer went out of business my community college paper looked into printing at the local newspaper which wanted more than the school's yearly printing budget upfront, so they went all-online

Ten years later and that local daily died altogether

And any smaller neighborhood/school papers that use these large daily print operations

I expected worse on the homepage of a nearby Gannett property and, honestly, three out of five plus one ad isn't bad for them these days
