IMHO, forcibly keeping such seats empty in peak hours would only encourage the division "us" vs. "them" and would be a disservice to the vulnerable groups in the long-term

in the end, it is cultivating respect and kindness within the society, which actually helps

in my country, we have seats where people who are elderly, disabled or pregnant have priority, and all they need to do is ask in case the other passenger didn't notice them and vacate the seat on their own (which is often the case)

it works pretty well in most cases

I think you sharing something so vulnerable can be really helpful to people with similar experiences. So unless you are worried sharing this can have some adverse consequences, e.g. someone reading it who shouldn't have, I encourage you to keep it here...
