Sechin? But his son was probably assassinated two years ago. Doesn’t exactly suggest “power” no?

Who would these be? Putin’s russia is a one man show from what we can tell no?
January 31, 2026 at 11:17 PM
I guess it’s more about fear and reassurance seeking. Especially given how many times russia was let off the hook..
January 28, 2026 at 9:59 AM
Can you explain the logic behind this? I don’t see how any agreement that includes territorial concessions will not result in future instability. Putin will flood those regions with russian nationalists to prove Ukraine wanted to be part of russia & then, after licking his wounds, start a new war.

Care to give some context to this? bsky.app/profile/henr...
“If anyone thinks here… that the European Union or Europe as a whole can defend itself without the US, keep on dreaming,” Nato SecGen Mark Rutte told the European Parliament. “You can’t.”

“It will make things more complicated. I think Putin will love it. So think again.”

Do you have any recommendations for someone looking for a job within the EU institutions (defense, regulatory apparatus) as a civil servant?

It’s been reported that he got to have pockets of US sovereignty in Greenland. Is this actually true? Wouldn’t that be catastrophic? The US would get to build military bases in Greenland and strengthen its position in case of future annexation attempts.

Yes I understand… it’s just dreadful to see so many people forced to flee their homes so as not to freeze
January 21, 2026 at 9:43 AM
For example, stuff like this is really not encouraging. That after 4 years the capital of our ally is on the brink of freezing to death or becoming depopulated doesn’t kindle much trust in europe’s support for Ukraine 🫠
❗️Kyiv is on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe: there is a risk of complete collapse. In January alone, 600,000 people left the city, — The Times quotes the mayor Klitschko.

In some houses it is so cold that residents cannot use the toilet because the water has frozen.

Can we expect signs of the EU collecting some victories in the near future? B/c for many the EU has mainly been reactive over the past 5y. Always reacting to another crises, never setting the terms & coming out on top (eg. russia collapse, EU military independence, humiliating trump, higher growth)

Bessent’s attitude and the things he is saying are horrendous. “Take a deep breath?” Kinda hard with the stench coming off from the US

I think there is already a law like codified by congress when denmark sold to them the current virgin islands in exchange for giving up any claims to greenland?
January 20, 2026 at 5:15 PM
Is it a fair assessment that this is more of a pointed threat than anything conciliatory? She is basically saying the US has no icebreakers to reach Greenland with and that them having any in the future is fully dependent on Finland and EU goodwill.
VDL concludes on Greenland and a very cooperative tone for Trump, as expected

"When it comes to the security of the Arctic, Europe is fully committed. And we share objectives of US in this regard. For instance, Finland – one of the newest NATO members – is selling its first icebreakers to the US"

I read Merz is trying to stop Macron from implementing ACI :/ and there a lot of economists coming up with articles like this on. The data from this summer 15% tariffs seems to suggest most of the cost was borne by americans, but even if it is not damaging how much more blackmailing can we accept?
How to think about Trump’s Greenland tariffs in purely economic terms? It’s a nuisance, mostly. Unless we enter a trade war.

Donald Trump’s Greenland tariffs are no great blow to Europe
An escalating trade war would be another matter, however

I do not think that is a real option unfortunately..
"However, the idea that “Europe” has “leverage” over the US because of its holdings of US Treasuries and other American financial assets is implausible."

I just want to see Ukraine free from constant massacres/bombing and able to re-establish control over its lands & people. It feels like we are far from that…😞 i fear how many resources & soldiers putin would be willing to sacrifice just to preserve the illusion of imperialism and control
January 19, 2026 at 5:33 PM
Oh they are really hell bent on getting sucker punched by china
January 19, 2026 at 12:11 PM
A two sided war (even just on tariffs) with US & russia, while we are also being pressured by chinese exports seems like a very precarious position for the EU to find itself in…shouldn’t we be doing everything possible, including direct intervention, to finish off russia and kick it out of Ukraine?
January 19, 2026 at 10:19 AM
Could you maybe help me clarify something regarding gripen and itar. I read yesterday on here that gripen built in canada by volvo would actually be itar free since GE has provided a licensing agreement to volvo that let’s them do as they wish. Can you confirm whether this is the case?

Like on other things he is seems quite knowledgeable but sometimes he just goes off saying crazy/super boastful stuff & ignoring the weaknesses of the EU that should instead be addressed (like how China is decimating our industries)

Well
Bombing every single military facility could help bring an end to these ravenous bastards
January 14, 2026 at 8:39 PM
I find the wolf guy comments regarding China rather odd. We have statements from Zelenskyy, the EU commission and other military/financial analysts affirming China is the main reason why Russia can still sustain its war. But if you say this he accuses you of being a troll.
January 14, 2026 at 8:36 PM
I wasn’t trying to be annoying, I just think china is also a dangerous partner for the EU given its track record. I understand your argument on us having limited resources and not being able to “fight” every problematic country. I apologize if i was being too insistent but no need for insults..
January 14, 2026 at 7:10 PM
This is what most pundits & realpolitik guys were saying in 2014 when some were calling to do something about Russia. So maybe it’s people that ignore problems and are ready to sacrifice their own morals on the altar of convenience until something goes bum in their backyard that should reconsider.
January 13, 2026 at 5:47 PM
In the 60s they were still fighting for equal rights for all “races”. Past US administrations instigated horrendous wars & pushed an economic system on the world that has been deeply damaging for many. So it was always a land of contradictions, maybe something better will emerge from these horrors?
