That's true: complex societies are inherently unequal. So, if we ask, was it a good idea to create them, well, for some, it was good, for others, it might not. Anyway, we don't make decisions like this; rather, everyone makes smaller decisions, and a complex society emerges or not as a result.

The cultural flourish under the Song dynasty, for instance, isn't worthless because it didn't last forever. Its true value is found in the creativity, innovation, and connections it fostered along the way. beside the legacy they left behind

While I demonstrate here that the dominant empire cannot last forever, it doesn't mean it completely fails. Society measures its success by the lifestyle it gives to people while it lasts, for good and for ill. While many nations were founded on cruelty, others created eras of profound prosperity.
