I'm using the Lacunarity-Based Heterogeneity Index h (Scott et al., 2022) to quantify landscape configuration. In the paper, the math can look intimidating for those who aren't used to it, so I wrote a simpler explanation on my blog, including a Julia implementation. Link in the first comment.
