MAGA as a movement has always been a white-supremacist, neo-Confederate movement. It takes advantage of people's faith, latent bigotry, and desire to assimilate into the United States. Most people know that this is what the movement is but for selfish or stupid reasons, assume they'll still be free.

The check on the pardon power is that Congress, which is supposed to be composed of a large block of aggressive and violently ambitious local notables, would immediately impeach any president engaging in such an abuse of his power.
