Thank you. We have our fun here but the tie is clearly red, white, and blue.

Any public transit manager that actually uses the system they're responsible for. Randy Clarke, Andy Byford, etc.

Even by Will Stancil's own high standard, this is obsessive hating.

The points about the vehicles themselves are good ones, but it doesn't seem fair to pile infrastructure costs so heavily onto long distance trains when the marginal infra cost is so low, unless you're talking about a dedicated line. The infra cost will be highly dependent on the rate of utilization.

If the Greens can't manage to gain a plurality of votes among the left-wing electorate, how can they win an election?
September 27, 2025 at 5:26 PM
I don't disagree with the characterization of the current government, but the principle of strategic voting on the left is voting for the plurality left wing candidate, which could be of any left-wing party, not just Labour.

The Table 14 assessment claims long-distance electric trains have more than double the carbon emissions per vehicle-kilometer than local trains. I think they're weighing the extra route miles of infrastructure but it still doesn't add up to me.

Isn't the current govt the first non-Conservative govt in 14 years? Strategic voting works: Lib Dems and Labour voted strategically and won, while the Conservatives and Reform split the vote and lost. Labour won an outright majority with a smaller share of the vote than under Corbyn.

Muslim Ban -> Student arrests + Visa revocations/denials
Normalizing Charlottesville -> Normalizing Kirk
Family separation policy -> Mass ICE raids
Ukrainian quid-pro-quo (secret) -> Ukrainian quid-pro-quo (official policy)
Covid disinfo -> RFK
BLM unmarked arrest vans -> ICE unmarked arrest vans

How does a 20 MW solar grid output 10 MW continuous power? Wouldn't that imply a capacity utilization factor of >50%?

The biggest story about the new Acelas is how unnewsworthy they actually are. Journalists should simply treat their introduction as a segway for discussing underinvestment in HSR.

Retirements and deaths wouldn't be filled until the designated time, which bolsters the case for a slightly larger court; One new justice every four years for sixteen years perhaps.

Re this specific proposal: You'd unfortunately have to start the process by allowing presidents to pick which legacy justices to dismiss first, establishing the order by which they're retired in the future.

This jives with 30% of the US being hardcore Trump supporters (crazification factor), with about half of those people totally divorced from reality.

It happens on outbound trains towards the end of the line. Some late night trains also have closed cars, especially when the cars don't fit the platforms.
