Hell yeah brother

I’m blown away that it’s one of my favorite films, too, and believed with my whole heart until now that it takes place in Boston’s North End 😅

Becca Carey’s sound effects are tops, too, fully enmeshed in the artwork, with lots of detailed clipping masks cutting letters behind pieces of debris and whatnot. Lots of slightly off kilter balloons to offset that “too perfect” effect of digital lettering. Everyone here has pride in their work.

Lois operates for the ruling class in a world where an AI dictates their thoughts for them. Her first bit of rebellion is when she realizes she wants to write her thoughts down herself without the AI meddling. Just tons of little strokes like this that update the 80-year-old characters.

Aaron does it with every part of the mythology, too. We know Krypton exploded because no one would listen to the lone scientist who saw it coming. Aaron makes that explicitly about climate change mixed with a Gilded Age class war. Superman is from the subjugated class and loses everything.

The immortal brilliance of cartooning!
