The BPM was part of the wider Black Education Movement, which protested over issues such as education, housing, unemployment and police brutality. The BPM continued to address and protest these issues, both within Britain and internationally #EachOneTeachOne✊🏿

In August 2024, YHP interviewed Marika for our project exploring the development of Black British history as a concept and academic field. It was an immense pleasure to hear so many stories about her books, travels, activism, and teaching career.

The New Cross Fire displayed the indifference shown by the British government and media and how they treat the loss of Black lives. To this day, no one has been charged in relation to the fire #OTD #EachOneTeachOne✊🏿
