Last Saturday, members of YHP went to the event 'Painted with Care: Celebrating African Women in British Healthcare' at The Africa Centre, to commemorate our project: 'African Women in British Healthcare, 1930 - 2000'. #EachOneTeachOne✊🏿

In September 2024, YHP unveiled our third commemorative mural as part of our project celebrating historical African women in healthcare. Installed outside Guy's Hospital in London, the mural features six impactful healthcare workers from a range of time periods. #EachOneTeachOne✊🏿

The Young Historians Project is deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of our longtime collaborator and friend Marika Sherwood. A veteran educator and pioneering historian, Marika dedicated her life to research and inspiring future generations.

During the Black People's Day of Action (2nd March 1981), the victims of the fire were publicly memorialised, when up to 20,000 people marched from New Cross Road to Hyde Park, with many carrying placards bearing pictures of the 13 victims with their names #OTD #EachOneTeachOne✊🏿

#OTD (18th January 1981): In the early hours of January 18th 1981, a fire broke out at 439 New Cross Road in the London Borough of Lewisham, where Yvonne Ruddock and her friend Angela Jackson were celebrating their 16th and 18th birthdays respectively. #EachOneTeachOne✊🏿

She was honored with a Nubian Jak blue plaque on March 25th 2022, which was sponsored by Black History Walks and Royal Holloway, University of London. It stands at Grenville Street, London. You can watch the unveiling of her plaque here: youtube.com/watch?v=9yMpD7bf2A0
