Fiddler on the Roof: wanted to like it more than I did. None of the actors involved in the romance parts of the plot were all that compelling. Handful of good songs but quite a bit of filler. If you want to watch 3 hours with big families and state-sponsored antisemitism, stick with Sound of Music.

South Pacific had its moments, below-average songs, above-average plot, middling acting, not enough dancing. Watched it a few weeks ago already so I forgot what else I thought.

Who knows what the production timelines were like back then, but I guess I’d have to spend a lot of time in the present trying to track down bills no newer than idk 1951. If I showed up at Gene’s trailer with neat stacks of 21st century money I might be committed. Maybe gold bars would be easier.

I mean, I generally think works of art that mention other fictional works of art should fully realize the nested ones. If I won the lottery and a time machine, I’d dump buckets of money on Gene Kelly and insist he make The Dancing Cavalier and release it a few weeks after Singin’ in the Rain.

I’d like to think that Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King composed the sub-Tennessee Waltz on the spot and never played it for anyone else, just so they’d know what the fictional band was playing for the fictional narrator and his sweetheart and friend.

It can’t be the same song! Wait, no, it could be by the time someone’s done the 3rd or 10th our-universe recording of it. Their instance’s narrator might be thinking of a different performance of our world’s song, but at some point to avoid infinite recursion, it has to refer to the fictional one.

I just had to scroll back thru your media tab looking for more of him because he reminds me of our late dog Wendy (pictured here using a food dish as a very comfy pillow)

The King and I: pretty solid. Great chemistry between the leads, terrific production design. Not quite Sound of Music tier, but around the level of Oklahoma!

Brigadoon: not nearly as good as I was expecting, kinda just made me want to rewatch Schmigadoon or Singin’ in the Rain. Still on the hunt for a Gene Kelly movie that comes even close to the latter (there probably aren’t any, it’s one of the best movies, period).

Yeah, some of the choices in that articles were mediocre movies in the first place. But they leave out examples where even if some sequels are good, they dilute the originals’ scope: Star Wars, Terminator, Alien

Shit wait I just realized it gets omitted next to variables most of the time, but pretend I said “inline in math expressions generally”

It only looks bad because it’s shoved in there between words! Next to digits or algebraic variables it’d look swell.

Omg @liss.bsky.social is so right and @siracusa.social is shockingly wrong about the offensiveness of using an x when × is called for. Eww. (On the other hand it’s disturbing that Casey is unbothered by straight quotes. For years I used to hold down the straight quote key to type curly ones on iOS.)

There were some crazy deals on brand new Bolts in 2022 while we were waiting for our Ioniq 5 to show up in stock. Got a used EUV last month but sometimes I regret not jumping on a new one back then!
September 24, 2025 at 11:39 PM
Oh ok I misremembered or imagined reading that somewhere. I bet they ramp up the EV9 and Ioniq 9 before too long tho!
September 24, 2025 at 11:37 PM
oh, ok. I thought I was taking crazy pills for a minute there because several reliable sites were contradicting each other. EV3 isn’t beautiful, but it’s less distractingly weird than EV4. And certainly shorter than the sedan version! Who doesn’t love parallel parking a short car?

I’d like to think the li’l guys would be popular once they can build them in the U.S. to get the price down, but I’m always reading that those plants are going to focus on the big 3-row models. (I see a ton of Bolts and Leafs around here but we’re probably not super representative of the country.)

Yeah there was a while after the EV3 announcement when the various blogs had every possible answer to “is it coming to the U.S.?” I saw confirmed yes, confirmed no, and no comment in the span of a week.
