Emo/punk & Metalhead. I’m interested in learning more about Housing and Transit policy in California and elsewhere, I am a Socialist YIMBY, I want California affordable for everyone! I am also a CAHSR Booster. He/Him

it always cracks me up that “brick oven pizzas and craft breweries” are the defining features of coastal cities vs. the reality of like being able to get incredible roti, tacos, and khao soi

also we have actual transit and walkable neighborhoods instead of endless strip malls

I’m very seriously considering it, the only thing that has been stoping from starting one, has been money & current job market, and current family drama which has taken up most of my time lately. The moment I can though, I absolutely will start it.

Not literally on the line, but I’m close enough to be less than 25 miles from the line.

Overall though it’s a very unique region, one that doesn’t get enough attention from YIMBYS despite it having some of the most insane housing prices in the whole state. But, it’s definitely an opportunity area. FYI Ventura & SLO counties are building more housing than SBC (SBC NEEDS a YIMBY group).

For nimbyism though, it heavily depends on where you are in the region, The Santa ynez valley ànd Santa Maria valleys has much more conservative MAGA nimbyism (Santa Maria lefties are usually more pro housing) Santa Barbara has a lot of left center nimbyism but also a lot of young leftist YIMBYism.

The best way I can describe the region is that it’s the mix of NorCal and SoCal, but with its own Central California flavor.

Weather wise, it’s not arid but not exactly wet and moist like NorCal. It’s more forested than SoCal, but not as many dense forestation as NorCal, the culture is very unique with it being a mix of mostly Hispanic but a lot of Asian culture too. Now for nimbyism, it’s very mixed on that front.

I live in Santa Barbara, pretty accurate, it’s a combination of SoCal and NorCal, but has its own central California culture.

1.) The first is my alma mater, @cayimby.bsky.social. They scored a huge win this year with the passage of SB 79, Scott Wiener's transit-oriented development bill. But there's still much more work to do to end California's housing crisis. secure.actblue.com/donate/victo...

I feel bad for his family, but Los Angeles is 100% better off with him no longer around.

I hope my college professors won’t be car brained NIMBY’s, because that would REALLY fucking suck.

That really sucks man, writing a cool and BASED urbanist essay and getting failed fucking sucks. It’s why I’m even more thankful that I had a very cool highschool teacher, she that graded me very highly when I wrote a very pro transit and pro housing essay. I got an À+
