An unknown screenwriter going by Guer claims they're the real writer of Blossoms Shanghai, accusing Wong Kar-wai and writer Qin Wen of exploitation and bullying, even posting audio recordings as proof. It's gotten so bad the production issued a statement about respecting the rights of creators.

Sad news. honored to have met Mick at the 2016 Kubrick conference in Leicester. I’ll always remember that my first English-language paper on The Shining was accepted at Screening the Past edited by Mick. In his emails he made many thoughtful comments on the manuscript. Forever grateful 🙏 RIP
RIP my research partner and closest friend for the last 20 years Mick Broderick.

Mick was a brilliant researcher, a deeply compassionate advocate, and maybe the funniest person I ever met.

Here we are enjoying a nuclear explosion at the beach. Good times.

Had an amazing time presenting my research ‘Lost in Translation, Found in Adaptation : A Cross-Cultural and Multimodal Study from the Stanley Kubrick Archive’ today at the #aas2025 conference🫶

Big thanks to all who listened and engaged🙏
Next up is @yeqizhu.bsky.social talking about the Stanley Kubrick archive and adaptation.

actually forgot that even though you’re outside China, if you roam your Chinese number you’re still subject to the blocks and need to use your VPN to escape them. So I’m now using my VPN with a Bangkok IP to access Google Map in Istanbul…

Still, regardless of the trolls, I'd recommend the movie. fantastic characterisation, unique monsters, and the soundtrack. the lyrics are taken from the ShiJing 詩經 - Classic of Poetry
The second half feels like an “anticlimax” for them, it seems they expect a more conventional war/hero revenge genre movie.

And some of them hate the film because the hero is “not tough enough”, “too much emphasis being put on the new heroine character”.
Getting cyberbullied for days on Weibo and Xiaohongshu just because i said that “the film CreationofTheGodsIIDemonForces is not a bad movie. I like it.”

This is ridiculous.

(2/2) (looking forward to the ‘zombie army’ sequence in the third episode of the trilogy)

kinda impressed with a line said by the protagonist Ji Fa: ‘I fight for the living, you fight for the dead.’

reminds me the quote from Mary Harris Jones, “Mourn the dead and fight like hell for the living.”

(1/2) Though Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force got overwhelmingly negative reviews on Douban (the Chinese equivalent of Letterboxd), personally I like it

Renewed interest in adaptations of the ‘Investiture of the Gods’

Deng Chanyu is amazing, one of my fav heroines i’ve seen in movies lately
