as an addendum, i don't think it's true that the populace lacks culture, either, or that it's an issue of artists vs non-artists-- i think if EVERYONE could afford a reasonable living, then more people would have time to go to museums/shows/etc and engage with culture in a more challenging way

the artists making some of the best stuff out there can't reach you because they can't afford groceries. free healthcare and universal basic income are issues of the arts
