Apparently one of my covert purposes with this fic is to fix film scenes.

[Flagging for brief and mild sexuality.] I'm going to have to cut the highlighted part of this passage or save it for later because it's not setting up what I need it to, but this is what I'm getting at wrt the intersection between character voice and worldbuilding.
He rested his elbows on his knees and looked at her, waiting for her to speak. He could look at her for a long time, for she was like a book he was trying to commit to memory. He attended to her dark, striking brows, the curve of her nose, the point of her chin, her shadowy hair confined beneath her headdress. The graceful line of her neck falling away to the pale hollow of her clavicle—if he kissed her there, he knew, she would tremble and clutch at him. Her figure, unjustly bound by the chaste white linen of her dress: willowy and lissome, like images he had seen of Nessa the Dancer or of maiar emerging from pools. If he undid the brooches at her shoulders, he could free her from her raiment and hold her and feel her supple waist rising and falling beneath his hands. And she would shine like a pale flame in the dying light.

I was joking with the post, but I have actually written it into the fic.

Estel, I am asking what you want.” He considered this. “In truth,” he told her at last, “I struggle to know what I want. I cannot remember when last I wanted something.” He hesitated over his next words because, despite Arwen’s returning of the secret, foolish love he had harbored for almost thirty years, despite the rituals they had come to practice alone in the starlit darkness together, he felt still as if he were admitting a shameful secret. “Except for you.”

A minor fun thing in Ch4 has been writing Middle-earth history from the point of view of a cynical 14yo girl.
“That makes sense,” said Haleth, who lacked the piety of her elders. “Some people, they go on and on about how we’re Númenorean and that’s so important. They’re all like, so we were kings and queens once, and now we have to go to archery practice when it’s raining and have Sindarin spelling tests on all those stupid sound change rules because the Enemy is still mad at us personally about it, for some reason. But that was a long time ago. We’re just boring, ordinary people like anyone else now.”

It could have been a sock for a very long-legged person, or it could have been a long, thin battle-standard, the kind in the shape of a serpent that filled with air when the wind blew it. Emlinn perched on a milking stool nearby, whittling with his knife. “Hey, Emlinn. What are you making there?” Haleth asked, with more interest than his task deserved. “Not a goalpost for ball games, is it? We missed you this afternoon, you know. You got a good arm. You should come play with us again sometime.” The boy looked at the stick in his hands. “Nah, it’s just a handle for a scythe,” he said, in the oblivious way of teenaged boys. “Your ma says I should ought to make a couple of them before the haying starts next fortnight.” Nienor stood hovering by her sister’s elbow. “What are you making, Hallie?” she asked waspishly. “Socks? Not socks for Emlinn? How long do you think his legs are?”

Aragorn ignored his cousin. He was not unaware of the effect he had on women. He would have find some way to let Morwen Gwain down before she got any mistaken ideas, and he needed to do it without revealing his relationship with Arwen. He didn’t want anyone in the Angle to know about his betrothal for the moment.

Gotta keep the dogs in this chapter actually because they're the only beings Aragorn acts normal with.
Garm, Aragorn’s erstwhile friend, had abandoned him to gaze imploringly at Nienor as she filled a bucket with scraps for pig feed. The black and white sheepdog lay on her side near the hearth. She thumped her tail politely and raised her head when he knelt next to her. Her eyes closed in bliss as he rubbed under her chin. “Her name’s Melui,” Elena said. She sat down next him, chores forgotten, and stroked the sheepdog’s furry belly. “She likes it when you do this.” “Melui,” Aragorn said to the dog. “You live up to your name, my friend.” Melui sighed and rolled on her back so that Elena could pet her better. Garm, losing hope in Nienor and perhaps growing jealous of the attention being lavished on Melui, came over to stick his nose in Aragorn’s face.

On one hand this chapter is a headache to write; on the other hand, Aragorn's kid cousins are a menace to society in general and him in particular.
“Cousin Aragorn!” Elena blurted, making him start. “Did you ever go to Mirkwood and see the big spiders? Nora read in the beastery that—” “Bestiary,” Nienor corrected. “—that when they bite you, they give you a poison that makes your insides get mushy, like soup. And then they slurp your guts out, like this.” She brought her bowl to her lips and guzzled her pottage with a noisy burbling sound. The younger boy, Tuilinn, burst out laughing. “Elena,”Andreth said. “You know better.” The girl meekly put down her bowl and continued eating with her spoon. “I saw no spiders larger than usual, I’m afraid,” Aragorn said, hoping that would quash her curiosity. He had heard stories in Ithilien, but those were likely just soldiers’ tales. Men’s minds played trick on them in the shadowy lands at the feet of the Mountains of Ash.
