Systematic attribution of heatwaves to the emissions of carbon majors - Nature
Climate change made 213 historical heatwaves reported over 2000–2023 more likely and more intense, to which each of the 180 carbon majors (fossil fuel and cement producers) substantially contributed.

We looked at how climate change is already affecting run-of-river hydropower in Switzerland—and what that means for electricity system planning.

Everyday I read about a new enraging Trump decision, but I don’t see much retaliation yet from those affected and those that oppose his fascist policies. Is there really no large-scale mobilization in the USA against Trump?

Let’s call it what it is: a witch-hunt, and the victims are scientists and all those working for a better future.

A partager massivement svp ! 🙌

There is no automatic reversion to "normal" in politics. Nor will the timid business-as-usual which got us into this mess get us out of it.
We'll achieve a better society after Trump and similar tyrants only through massive and focused movement-building. It has to start right now.

I think the crazy developments in the US ought to remind us to hold our representatives accountable, to inform ourselves through credible sources and to engage with those that don’t share our opinions. It’s fundamental to counter populist takes based on misinformation, to not end up like the US🙃

The best climate solutions -- by far -- are the ones that are ready to scale *now*.

Waiting for pie-in-the-sky tech solutions, which never seem to show up as promised, is *exactly* the wrong thing to do.

I was just watching the recording of the Deep Learning for Climate and Weather session @agu.org, and I could not believe the level of condescendence of some of the speakers (see screenshot). AI/ML research needs more humility and respect, we should be working hand in hand, not one against the other.

I get that COPs are the best we have but they are infuriating - it is so hard to simply keep past commitments let alone accelerate action at the speed and scale required to have any hope of achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Shame on the countries that show up to obstruct rather than act.

Brilliant thread summarizing each country’s interventions during the #COP29 Plenary. Not surprised to read that most countries express disappointment in this year’s COP. Very weak developments, anchored in a logic of delay.
#COP29 plenary

EU "very much concerned" on mitigation text "we need a much stronger language on the concrete follow up to GST"

"[Climate extremes] in Africa, the Americas, our friends in the Caribbean & the Pacific…shows we need to do more, not less, than the UAE consensus on mitigation"

Softening the definition of Net Zero won’t stop global warming. As authors of the 2009 “Net Zero Papers” we call on countries and companies to recognise the need for Geological Net Zero, balancing flows of carbon into and out of the Earth’s crust.

Countries could use nature to ‘cheat’ on net zero targets, scientists warn
By relying on natural carbon sinks such as forests and peatlands to offset emissions, governments can appear closer to goals than they actually are

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting.

Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.
