RM No. 1 Male Soloist in Genius Korea 2024 RIGHT PLACE, WRONG PERSON Released at the start of a new era for RM-the first album project of his 30s and right before his mandatory military enlistment-Right Place, Wrong Person is a poignant and multifaceted exhibition of one of RM's purest and most prevalent emotions: rage. Absolutely a bold choice for a full- length project released in this day and age, this 2nd studio album of his is an honest showing of RM, of Kim Namjoon, without any ornamentation. All the alternatives and experimental creative choices that we got as a result of that were a way to remind us that this album and these raw emotions should be consumed the way they are. To perceive life as it is, to stop thinking about right or wrong, and to believe that time will sort everything out is the overarching theme of this album.When looking at RM's previous albums, similar themes have emerged before, but never as unhinged as the expression was in this album. If Indigo was a documentation of his youth and struggles, Right Place, Wrong Person is a venting of youth and struggles. His frustration over his inability to accept himself for who he is, still, as a veteran artist of over 11 years now, is sprinkled into every song, each marinating into its own listinct flavors. Whether it be the funky and introspective rap in "LOST!" or the old-school Hip-Hop and snarky flow of "Groin," each song stands on its own, but ultimately, their existence is exponentially more important in creating the artistic landscape that is Right Place, Wrong Person. In evaluating an album that's written to be perceived exactly how it's presented, RM also encourages you to see it however rawly you would feel about it, for individuality will show us that no matter the place, we are undoubtedly, the right person. The path to self-acceptance won't be easy, but RM has shown that he'll be right there with you.
